Where Does Projection Still Work Well?

Projection remains an effective technology for many museums. It can cover very large surfaces, irregular architecture and fully immersive environments, often at a lower initial display cost than direct-view LED.

However, its suitability depends strongly on the exhibition space.

Ambient Light

A projected image is created by reflecting light from a surface. Ambient light reaching that same surface reduces perceived contrast, particularly in darker content.

In naturally lit galleries, circulation areas and multi-purpose visitor spaces, this can make projected imagery appear less vivid unless lighting is carefully controlled.

Projection Geometry

Projectors also require suitable mounting locations, throw distances and clear optical paths.

Complex installations may require several projectors, edge blending, warping and precise alignment. None of these are inherently problematic, but they need to be incorporated into the exhibition design from the outset.

Maintenance and Access

Modern laser projectors can provide excellent reliability and require far less maintenance than older lamp-based systems. Even so, projection still depends on separate optical equipment that may require access for cleaning, servicing, recalibration or eventual replacement.

Why MicroLED Works Well in Museums and Visitor Centres
