Mayfair FAQs

Does the Mayfair sofa recline?

No. Mayfair is a deep, fixed modular cinema sofa designed for relaxed, informal lounging rather than powered reclining. Its generous cushioning and optional pouffe provide a sofa-style alternative to individual cinema recliners.

If you prefer the appearance of a modular sofa with powered reclining, consider the Islington modular reclining cinema seating or Kensington modular reclining cinema seating.

What is the difference between Mayfair, Islington and Kensington?

Mayfair is a fixed modular sofa with deep cushioning and a relaxed, sociable feel. It is especially well suited to family media rooms, open-plan interiors and spaces where the seating should resemble a luxury designer sofa.

Islington and Kensington are modular reclining cinema seats. Both offer powered adjustment, wall-hugging mechanisms, adjustable headrests and chaise or daybed options.

Islington has a more architectural, structured appearance, while Kensington has softer proportions and a more relaxed lounge-inspired character.

Which Mayfair configuration will fit my room?

Mayfair is available in configurations ranging from a single seat to large multi-seat sofas, together with a separate pouffe. The right arrangement depends on your available width, viewing position, walkways and how many people regularly use the room.

Allow space around the sofa for comfortable circulation rather than selecting the largest configuration that will technically fit. You can download the dimensions sheet from the product page or read our guide to home theatre sofa layout ideas.

What does “modular” mean for the Mayfair sofa?

Mayfair is constructed from individual seating modules that can be combined to create different sofa widths and configurations. This provides considerably more flexibility than a conventional sofa and enables the arrangement to be planned around the proportions of your room.

The precise combination should be agreed when ordering. If you intend to separate or regularly rearrange the modules, please mention this during your consultation so that we can recommend the most suitable specification.

Is Mayfair suitable for a dedicated home cinema?

Yes. Although Mayfair has the appearance of a luxury residential sofa, its generous proportions, deep cushioning and flexible configurations make it suitable for dedicated cinema rooms as well as relaxed media spaces.

For a formal cinema with individually adjustable viewing positions, a powered design such as Islington or Kensingtonmay be preferable. Our guide to designing a media room around seating, screens and sightlines explains the factors to consider.

What is the Mayfair pouffe used for?

The large Mayfair pouffe can be positioned in front of the sofa to create an informal chaise-style lounging area. It can also provide an additional seat or a useful surface when entertaining.

Because it is separate from the main sofa, it gives you the flexibility to open the room for circulation or create a more relaxed arrangement for films, sport and family viewing.

How far should the Mayfair be positioned from the screen?

The ideal distance depends on the screen dimensions, display technology and intended field of view. The Mayfair itself is 1000mm deep, so its full footprint and the space required for circulation should be included when establishing the principal viewing position.

Screen size, sofa position and speaker layout are best planned together. Read How Large Should a Home Cinema Screen Be? or contact Cinema Deco for help assessing your room.

Is Mayfair suitable for everyday family use?

Yes. Mayfair was created for rooms that are used for more than formal film viewing. Its sofa-like appearance and relaxed seating position make it equally suitable for television, gaming, sport, entertaining and everyday family use.

This makes it particularly effective in open-plan living spaces and multifunctional media rooms where conventional rows of individual cinema recliners might feel too formal. Our article on the psychology of comfort in home cinema designconsiders how seating affects the overall viewing experience.

What should I check before ordering a Mayfair sofa?

Measure the available width and depth, doorways, corridors, staircases and any restricted turns on the delivery route. You should also consider side walkways, the location of floor sockets, the viewing distance and how the separate pouffe will be positioned.

For basement cinemas, loft rooms and properties with restricted access, send us your room plan and access measurements before ordering. Cinema Deco can help check the proposed configuration, although final access remains dependent on accurate site information.

Contact Cinema Deco to discuss your room and preferred layout.

How long does a Mayfair sofa take to make and what warranty is included?

Every Mayfair sofa is handmade to order, with an estimated delivery time of approximately 10–14 weeks. A 50% payment confirms the order and production slot, with the remaining balance payable before delivery.

Mayfair is covered by Cinema Deco’s component-specific warranties: 10 years for the wooden frame and structure, five years for metal mechanisms, and three years for leather and fabric. Full warranty terms and the expected delivery arrangements should be confirmed when placing your order.
